GUIDE #2
Kevin Nel
ケヴィン・ネル
Kevin Nel, a South African industrial designer, first came to Japan to immerse himself in the country’s unique culture and design traditions. Starting his journey in Himeji, he discovered how cycling could offer travelers an engaging way to explore Japan’s landscapes and stories. This led him to establish Asago Cycling in Asago City, where he introduced cycling tours that showcased the region’s natural beauty and cultural significance. To further enhance the experiences he offers, Kevin launched Roots & Routes, a Himeji-based venture that deepens connections between visitors and local communities. By blending his skills in design, photography, and storytelling, Kevin creates thoughtful and authentic travel experiences that celebrate Japan’s rich heritage. Now living in the tranquil countryside of Ichikawa City, Kevin divides his time between organizing tours, working on creative projects, and capturing Japan’s essence through photography. When not working, he’s often cycling unexplored paths, embarking on road trips, or drawing inspiration from the landscapes and stories that surround him.
GUIDE #3
Réhan Nel
レハン・ネル
With a background in industrial design, I first came to Japan to immerse myself in its crafts, art, and design. This passion for creativity naturally evolved into a love for travel, inspiring me to experience life in Japan more deeply. I began my journey in Sapporo, Hokkaido, where I lived for three years. It was there that my personal interests in cycling, tourism, and photography transitioned from hobbies to a fulfilling career. I now reside in Asago City, nestled in the heart of Hyogo Prefecture. Here, I manage an accommodation facility that repurposes culturally significant assets, supporting the local community while promoting tourism and regional heritage. My work combines my passions for design, photography, and storytelling to create unique experiences for visitors. In my free time, you’ll often find me fishing, cycling, or exploring new corners of Japan, capturing the beauty of its landscapes and culture through a lens.
